You Call That Vintage? Davy Jones, Ebay Treasures, and more Topps Update

A card cool enough to make Marsha Brady blush?

Daydream Believer, in Vintage

Not just vintage; Vinnnntttttaaaaaggggggeeee.

So, we may as well say I "traded" the Jeter /10 Update card I pulled for this Davy "Kangaroo" Jones T206 card. I made the mistake of offering a way too low "buy it now" price on the Jeter that sold within 10 minutes of listing. I am not dissapointed though since I was able to find this sweet vintage piece in a non-baseball card category area on Ebay. I got it for a great price. It is my first T206 and the pride of my collection. I finally got the Monkee of my back and grabbed a T206. A couple of musings on this card and its subject:

Davy "Kangaroo" Jones was a pretty cool dude. Click his linked name to see his Wikipedia page. He is remembered for a lot of things and a lot of details about his life outside of baseball attracted me to his card. I implore you to think to yourself "Why is he so great?" and then read just a little about him. I won't bother cutting and pasting it. I also love how rugged the card looks. I see every card as a piece of art and only a few I consider masterpieces. Any card surviving this long, battle scars and all is a masterpiece. God I hope its real (lol).

I freaked out when I won the last minute bid battle for this card. I was pumped. I showed my younger brother who collects and he wasn't as thrilled and seemed a bit confused. Now, I know it is about as far from MINT as a card gets. I like that about it. Also, buying this instead of a Bellinger or Judge card was my way of giving the middle finger to all these newb's grabbing up cards for "investment" purposes. While Bellinger and Judge may be great short term investments to flip for fast money, nothing says rare, treasured, and desired more to me than 100+ year old cards. I don't think enough of these investors are looking long term. Judge has peaked unless he breaks the single season homerun record. Bellinger is too young to tell how he'll last but I'm not going to spend crazy money on him yet.

I also picked up this sweet Silver Signature Ken Griffey Jr for $1 shipped. I love all the 90's gold cards and silver signatures! It showed up PWE as expected but inside it was taped so crazy I didn't know if I would every be able to remove it. Can't we all just ship and protect by one standard?

Hey, Hey We're; Busting Another Topps Update Pack

I just had to try my luck on another pack of Update. This one wasn't so HOT...

I got another Bellinger. I am going to pack this one away for a while.

This card is numbered as standard Gold /2017 but the background is weird.

The one PC card in the pack was beat to hell on the corners and really bad on the back. Sucks.

The Astin is some kind of refractor.
On top of these I got the same repeat RC's of dudes I have never heard of and too many All Star cards to bother counting. Well, at least I pulled a Tiger this time.

Trade Packages; Might Be Coming to Your Town.

I've sent out a crazy amount of packages within these last 2 or 3 weeks. I don't think there is anyone I trade with who didn't either receive a random sorting box is full package or a prize package from my contest. I have gotten some new trade requests as well which is awesome. I have also been contacting some of my favorite athletes and celebs outside of baseball and sports with some interesting TTM requests which will be fun if filled. I should have a pretty full mailbox this coming month from trades on here and Facebook (if they send...). I'm pretty pumped. Howard Johnson, Darrell Evans, Alex Delvecchio, and Ted Lindsay are all signing in the next few weeks and I am dying because I have no funds left. Hopefully switching gears and doing some hunting will distract me.

  1. Love the Monkees and that Davy Jones! Davy played for the Cubs at one point, so his intriguing career has definitely caught my attention. Anytime you can add a tobacco card to your collection is a time worth celebrating - no matter the condition. I doubt any of us would look as good at 109!
