Island of Misfit Hits WINNER!

BILLY KINGSLEY YOU ARE GETTING A T-REX CRAP LOAD OF STUFF!

Kind of literally a dinosaur crap load. This included.

First, I want to thank the 12 people who took the time to enter this contest. Dennis, Jon, Billy, Gavin, Julie, Fuji, Josh, all 3 Matt's, Scott, and Ketchupman thank you for visiting my blog and playing along. I hope you all use your TCDB profiles to benefit your collections and add me as a friend.

Sometimes fate takes control of things and the result is absolute perfection. Billy is the guy that turned me on to The Trading Card Database long ago via his blog. He busts his ass on the site keeping it updated, uploading pics and everything else. The stars aligned and got it right as he was shat out the winner. I am very excited for Billy to receive this GIANT box of "stuff" from me. I tried to tailor it to the winner in addition to the stacks of random "stuff" I had awaiting them. Billy, I hope you get a kick out of some of this stuff and maybe something fits into your collection. At least you should have plenty of trade bait for TCDB as this is easily the biggest giveaway prize I have ever handed out.

Scribbled Ink's Island of Misfit Hits Giveaway / Contest / Challenge

I had such an amazing year of collecting and trading in 2018. I want to give back a little. I am so grateful for The Trading Card Database and the awesome traders on the site that this giveaway/contest/challenge is based on getting my readers to at least visit it. It has totally changed my collection since I started uploading on there. So, here are the details for this giveaway/contest/challenge thing to promote more great members to TCDB:

To Enter: Contest is open to anyone (except my brother) who reads this post and comments with their Trading Card Database profile name. If you don't have one, you will need to make one. You can thank me later if you end up taking advantage of what the site offers after creating a login and it blows your mind and enhances your collection tenfold.

Prize and Selection of Winner: I often find myself with strange cards that don't fit into my collection, both sports and non-sports. I have a stack of sports (not just baseball) and non-sport relic, autographed, numbered cards and other collecting related items beyond your wildest dreams for one winner. Winner will be chosen by a method of my choosing to be named later, probably using my 4 year old in some way to pick randomly. Example: Write everyone's name on a nerf dart and film him chasing me while shooting and the first dart to hit is the winner. It won't be that but it will be something similar. If you are pissy about the randomness of something absolutely random; this giveaway/contest/challenge is not for you. BUT, if you are a collector who could use some new and interesting stuff to add; you found the right place.

Hit me up with any questions. I hope this is pretty straight forward: comment with your TCDB name on this post and you are in.

CONTEST ENDED & WINNER CHOSEN

Winner will be announced on this post and in a new post on or before 1/3/2019. Make sure to check back in case I don't have contact info for everybody.

Comments get screened for spam so don't worry if yours doesn't show up right away.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

CONTEST! Emergency Tiger Post

I've never done an emergency post in a moment of rage before but this seems like the best time.

FML

Of course in true Detroit Tigers fashion, they sold tickets to Tigerfest promoting Miguel Cabrera attending as well as Jose Iglesias. See pic:

NOW, the ball club I am now a former fan of and now root for because of my physical location on this god forsaken globe announced: Cabrera, Igelsias, Victor Martinez, and James McCann will NOT be at their precious money making event #Tigerfest. I know from instagram James McCann just had twins that are still in hospital last time I checked so I figured he would not be there. Victor Martinez stopped caring about baseball around 2011, and I in turn stopped caring about him shortly after so I am not surprised. But, they promoted the event using Iglesias and Cabrera as draws. I have typically given the organization the benefit of the doubt in these cases but this shit has happened too many times. They knew. They are claiming family health reasons for both guys. Maybe some details might sound a little better and ease the blow. I have always felt Iglesias was a cancer in the clubhouse since day one anyway. Miguel Cabrera is on a AAA roster at best as a future HOFer and only Superstar. He can pretty much do whatever he wants and the Tigers have to succumb to his whims.

Of frickin' course, this comes just days before the event and one day after I received early entry passes for the first time ever and posted a joyous knucklehead blog post about how much I was pumped for early entry. The best part is I gave up PC cards for those passes. Cards that should only see the light of day once a year and are kept behind lock and key. My only measly hope for the event now is to get Alan Trammell on the '78 RC to finish my project. I am really disappointed. Its funny, I am trying to compare it to other team's players who if they had a player not in attendance the whole event would be blown but other teams have more than one superstar. Maybe the D'Backs if Goldschmidt baled or Rockies without Arenado attending? I would still love to see Castellanos or Fulmer and a bunch of others but the Early Entry was solely for the purpose of a chance to get Miguel Cabrera's scribble.
I will still have a great time. I'm going with my brother again and we always have fun. If we somehow found a way to enjoy last year, this year will be a blast. I am just sick of the Tigers organization taking advantage of and crapping on the fans. They raised the price of Tigerfest this year and also the prices of season tickets and ticket packages by hundreds of dollars. The product is as bad as its been in nearly 20 years. Come on Tig's!

"EFF the Tigers" CONTEST TIME!

In the wake of all this bullshit I am going to run a contest. Please all government employees know this post and all comments are facetious and there is no danger to any Tiger's players from me and probably not from the commenters.
Since this awful news I have been creating outlandish revenge plots in my head for the Tigers and Miguel Cabrera. I will list them below but want to hear some of your ideas for crazy revenge plots in the comments. Keep them "un-murdery" and stay on the humorous side if possible please. Again, this is all in fun. I will random all the comments for a Miguel Cabrera prize pack since I don't need any of his crap laying around anymore. I will probably throw in some other stuff that the winner likes too. I may even send stuff to the person(s) with the best comment. Have fun with it. Contest closes Saturday 02/03/2018 at midnight my time so I can read the comments and heal from a most probable shitty Tigerfest on the previous Saturday.

My first ideas to get the ball rolling:

  1. Practice Miguel Cabrera's autograph until I am good enough to pass authenticity. Get an auto pen made of it and start spreading fake Miggy autos around the world until his autograph is worthless.
  2. Start working out and juicing and get back into better shape than my playing days. Get a pitching role with an American League team within the next couple years. Bean Miggy every time he comes up.
  3. Break into his candy factory (BitBits; its real, look it up) and screw up all the orders like Rob Lowe's character in Tommy Boy.
  4. Find and hire a Miggy look alike and take him to Tigerfest to cause pandemonium and shorten the lines for myself.
Thats just what came to mind right away. I hope I get a few of you to comment some good ones. Good Luck.

RITE AID $4.99 "Jumbo Box" Break

I had to hit the Rite Aid down the road from my house for some essentials. Now, we are a CVS household but 5pm in my neck of the woods takes you 2 hours to move 2 miles in rush hour traffic so Rite Aid was the only option. It worked out though because unlike my local CVS, this store had some cards. These repack boxes are $5ish and boast 1 in 4 contain a "hit." I could see it was loose cards and one pack in side. I am not sure if I would be able to see the hit but that could be why I didn't get one in the box I grabbed. It was a good mix of 80s - modern cards. I would assume someone out there busts a ton of 2011 Topps to find the Trout RCs and tosses everything else at these repack boxes since I always get a handfull of 2011 Topps. There was some nice 1989 Topps Tiffany cards in this box which was cool. Here are the highlights:

The Ichiro was the front card in the box. The Jeter was in there loose.

Parrish and Jefferies Topps Tiffany.

Some Tig's and some semi-vintage.

Apparently somebody's Yankee team set got broken up.

What a Series!

POST 98 - World Series and Giveaway Last Call

Wild World Series is Going 7!

This World Series has been the most intense 7 games of baseball I have ever seen and I don't even have a horse in the race. Thank god I have been able to watch every heart racing game. Tomorrow I have an engagement that will keep me away from home until 10pm my time, so hopefully nothing happens until the late innings. I want Verlander to get a ring and don't want Chase Utley to so that is why I am rooting for Houston. Here are some thoughts on what I have seen:

Joc Pederson is going to get a ball in his ear very soon. Especially if game 7 turns into a blowout. I used to be a fan of the kid but on his last two homeruns he acted like they were walk-offs. Both were relatively meaningless. I see Correa and Altuve celebrate like maniacs but at least their hits mattered and they kept their celebrations for the instant reaction on the way to first and after they crossed the plate. Not parading around the whole diamond dancing like a clincher. Very disappointed.

Fransisco Liriano should have pitched by now. I have been a big Liriano fan since his rookie year but why throw Gregerson who looks like he has a knuckleballer delivery and shows the ball way too much to be successful and leave Liriano in the 'pen when he has valuable experience?

Where is Josh Reddick?! He's been decent defensively but just has not shown up at the plate. He is an automatic out. I keep waiting for him to bust out...and waiting....and waiting...

The Astros WILL Win Game 7!

I like Lance McCullers and I think he has a great career ahead of him. I hope he is able to pitch above the moment and dominate for 5 or 6 innings. I am NOT a Dallas Keuchel fan. I would rather see Verlander come out of the 'pen and throw underhand than have Dallas throw gas on a fire. If we see him pitch in game 7 its because the game is over or will be soon.

GIVEAWAY/CONTEST UPDATE:

Time is running down. My next post (#99) will signify the end of the contest. I have a huge number of prize packages put together to send out. More packages than entrants so comment or email your blog name idea or just comment or email that you like someone else's idea and one of these packages is yours!

This is post #97! Just two more posts until the close of the Name the Blog CONTEST GIVEAWAY! Get your comments/emails in. Everybody wins something and a few lucky persons will receive superduper-Grand Prizes! Tell your friends. Time is slowly running out! Check out my previous post from  10/17/2017 for details!

TTM Returns from the World Series!

Big Joe took time out of his busy playoff schedule to throw some sharpie down on two cards I sent him. I don't remember sending to him twice but I am glad I did. He has a bright future. I am rooting for the 'Stros if anybody cares.

Cool Drew Jackson was good for one in Tulsa!

2017 TTM autograph request totals so far...

These returns make me 23/136 for returned signed/total sent.

I sent out 136 total starting April February 1st and as recent as August 31.

I received back 23 signed as intended.

I received 10 back unsigned requesting donations (Detroit Tigers)

I received 2 Return To Senders

I received 2 back unsigned with preprinted cards (Texas Rangers)

I gained one auto through only an email without actually sending a SASE that isn't reflected in my stats above.

That means I have 99 autograph requests still floating around out there.

Allen & Ginter Fishing Legend Lefty Kreh, GIVEAWAY Countdown Continues

POST 96

An ebay snag for 90% less than the other 4 listed on the site. Its a great photo of fly fishing legend Lefty Kreh. I don't think many traditionalists in the fly community would appreciate him holding a largemouth in the pic but he probably reeled him in on a 5 weight after chugging a popper somewhere. I love when my passions collide. A memorabilia/relic card of a fisherman?! Hell yes. This one gets locked up in the PC forever.

!!!!!!!GIVEAWAY DEETS!!!!!!!!!!

My SUPER-AWESOME-FANTASTIC-MEGA-CRAZY-COOL-BOSS-SWEET-NAME MY BLOG CONTEST is still going on. Check out this past post :  CONTEST DETAILS to enter! Anybody, and I mean, anybody who enters will win something. You need not be a google+ member, blogger, follower, or even card collector to win. Comment or email me to enter.

Ultra-Mega-Monster Post, Card Show, GIVEAWAY CONTEST PRIZE UPDATE, POST #95

Tigers Get New Leadership

I am very excited to have Ron Gardenhire at the helm for the Tig's. I always liked the guy when he was in Minnesota. I took my approval so far as to dress up as him for a Halloween Event we took my son to at the Detroit Zoo.

Creepy pic but you get the idea. It was too dark out for any kind of decent evidence of the whole package. I think it worked.

Bucket List Items Crossed Off the List

I recently purchased two items for my collection that I have been dreaming about for a long time. First, is a signed Cecil Fielder lithograph I have looked at for almost a year. It sat on tables and sometimes in a bin and always called to me. But, the $35 price tag on it always scared me off. That is a large chunk of change for a guy who spends his whole wad at the dimeboxes. I ended up offering the seller something cheaper and he took it. Very quickly which made me wonder what I really could have gotten it for but oh well. Its mine now! I love it and can't wait to get it framed.
Its just a little under poster sized, I'm too lazy to measure it now. The scrapes and toning issues are on the gigantic top loader its in. It is in really amazing shape inside and will look good when I give it the attention it deserves.

Next is a card. Not just any card, though. A card off my want list that I have wanted since the WBC. Ian Kinsler was terrific in that tournament and I really wanted something good to remember it by. Here is my sweet little piece of history.

New, Cheap FeeBay Finds

The Delvecchio is for an upcoming signing. Here are two reasons other than fees that Ebay sucks: 1. More than just the Cecil Fielder card came with tape on the top loader. Come on people, quit ruining cards. 2. One of the cards that was "free shipping" shorted the stamps so I had to pay .21 upon arrival. How lame are these sellers?!

A Card Show Comes to Me!

One localish card show has called it quits but has been replaced with another at a new venue just about walking distance from my house! How amazing is that? I may stop going to the Taylor, MI show all together now that this one is here and 5 minutes away with most of the same vendors and some great new ones. I went to the show for 2 hours on Saturday by myself and 3 hours on Sunday with my brother. The dimeboxes took a beating those days. Here's a little bit of the loot:

Finally, Finally, Finally finished the set! But now this is the only one not signed by a pro fisherman.

Found a new set of fishing inserts. Love that Burbot...Cusk for all you New Englanders.

Pedro ToppsGold for the W.S. bound Dodgers? Yes please.

Lots of Rocket. The eye black card is one of my favorites, I buy it every time for whatever reason I guess I need 100 of them.

Couple of youngsters who became studs.

Former Tiger masher.

I love the looks of these no matter who graces them.

Finally some dimeboxes with cards older than 2010.

Wily Mo! Not looking like his giant baseball tearing self yet. Notice his name is spelled "WILLI" by Bowman and signed very different.

The always amazing but never scannable Metal cards. Two wonderful Tony Clarks.

These cards are so cool. The pictures seem to be actual stamps placed on the card. I have to research these bad boys.

Found a decent amount of Rick Ankiel I didn't have.

Pat Burrell RC's, Score!

And a die cut and minor league card.

The best SS ever.

Very cool Richie Sexson cards.

Prince.

Nolan's.

I buy any and all Canseco's. Someday I will get them together and see what I have but for now I just buy them recklessly.

I have a Flair for Big Daddy cards.

Cecil Fielder cards for 10 cents are uncommon in my neck of the woods.

All 11 cards for this Fielder insert set in a case sitting in a dimebox. Damn I'm lucky sometimes.

Some RC's. Never heard of the Bowman card player but I have been impressed with Didi lately.

Some old, some new.

Some classic Cubbies.

I should just commit to putting together an electric diamond set or quit buying them.

I bought 5 of each of these Severino cards. I was so frickin' impressed with him in the playoffs. The dude is going places if he stays healthy.

Some kids and their comic cards.

What is the deal with the Dennis Martinez card?

Whit Merrifield pretty much saved my fantasy team this year.

Gold Rush AVS. Cha!

I only wish my oversized Brady Anderson card had his later career sideburns.

Albert Belle only looking kind of scary.

Tiggers

Nice technology Robbie

Kenny Lofton showing off his jersey collection.

Two of the greatest athletes of all time.

I even picked up some football. I have never seen a running back as good as Bell was last game.

Pharmacy, Dog Food, Cereal. Nowadays I have a harder time finding a way to buy cards when I am out grocery shopping.

Some classic hockey.

Some football stragglers.

Fantasy Baseball Results

I had to settle for second place. Which is fine because just like every other time I have played fantasy baseball everybody loses a couple weeks early on and quits. So lame. Someday I'll find a keeper league or something that matters.

Upcoming Signings

I figured I would post these in case anybody needs the info or wants something signed.
