TRADING IN THE RAIN: Hanging with Dennis at CoPa. VIDEO BLOG : 4 Case 2019 Stadium Club break, TCDB & Ebay goodies

Big Mail Day Video Blog

I am getting too busy and lazy to make decent posts lately. I think my blogging activity follows the weather and the colder it is outside, the hotter my blogging is. Right now it is in the 90's outside, therefore; I am a ghost on blogger.
I did however, get a huge mail day about a week ago and decided to record myself opening it all. Included in this video and cannot be overstated is one of the best trade packages I have ever received. Dennis from Too Many Verlanders and also the blog-trader's HOF came to a Tiger game with me and brought me some amazing cards. Two of which have me flabbergasted and will very soon find their way into a display in my card cave. I got too excited and started logging some of Dennis's package into Trading Card Database before I even took pictures. My bad, won't happen again. So not in the video are a stack of Nolan Arenado and Nolan Ryan cards from my wantlist.
Our 4:10 first pitch Red Sox v. Tigers game ended up being an all night ordeal as first pitch happened sometime after 8:15pm. I got home after the game around 1am I think, I am sure Dennis got in much later. The Tigers gave 0 information as the day went on and the stadium took on water at a Titanic pace. There must have been 100 times we looked at each other and said "they have to reschedule." It was awesome having all the extra time to talk cards with Dennis and explore the park a little more than usual. I had a pretty crappy time leading up to meeting up with Dennis at this game so I am so glad he was there to hang out with or else I would have lost my mind.

In the video I review my trade with Dennis, a couple TCDB trades, some ebay purchases, and a big 4 Case Hobby Legends 2019 Stadium Club player break package in which I bought the Christin Stewart, Nick Castellanos, Michael Fulmer and Niko Goodrum spots.
The video is a little lengthy and I try to keep it moving . Here is a skip ahead cheat list of what I am opening at different times in the video:

BIG POST: Too Many Verlanders, Not Enough Card Shows

BASEBALL IS BACK! and so is Lauren. 😎

MARCH CARD SHOW

I am so lucky to reside in Michigan, home to the best card bloggers on Earth. Dennis from Too Many Verlanders  is one of my favorite bloggers and all around awesome guy. He must ask me to meet him at card shows 30 times for every one time I am able to go. Lucky for me, he still asks and we were able to meet up at my local show. As usual he brought me a big bag of goodies, including (above) this Nolan Ryan fascimile auto baseball for Nolan. As usual I owe Dennis a ton of better cards and need to venture into finding him some non-card goodies too. He brought me a Canseco SLU and a stack of cards including a ton of Thome #'ed cards, Tigers, everything I like.

This is my card show haul and stuff from Dennis. It was a great day. Always a good time when I get to hang out with other bloggers. Not sure if I even qualify as a blogger being that I post so rarely nowadays. A closer look below. Now Dennis is the kind of guy that searches a dollar box while you search a nickel box and says "I can't find anything else in here. Find a couple cards you want so I can get the deal." Who does that? Crazy generous. Sorry Dennis if your inbox gets flooded with card show invitations.

WALLET CARD 2019

This is my first wallet card. Dennis saw me find it in a dime box at the show. It deserved some attention.

BIG NEWS!

My wife bought me tickets and hotel accommodations for me and my brother to go to the National this year! I get overwhelmed in the little card shows I go to locally. My head is going to spin for a long time at this one. Now to sell everything I own for spending $!

HOF TTM Returns!

Great Pull

I dabble in all cards. I pulled this Collin Sexton auto from a Target 3 pack hanger. If you look on the back and sides of the card you can see some random sharpie marks from when he was signing them. I don't think I have ever seen that before. Just my luck it probably makes it worth less money instead of being the high dollar ebay 1 of 1.

The other strange thing I had happen was buying a hanger pack of Topps Opening Day from Meijer which states 3 exclusive cards inside. Mine only came with 1 purple inside instead of 3. Anybody else have this issue? It was a Touki RC so I am not super upset.

Topps Home Run Challenge Time!

This picture is from a TCDB trade. I only traded for the 4 Home Run Challenge cards but the dude sent all this! I have Bryce Harper for my first code uploaded hitting a home run tomorrow (03/30/2019). Wish me luck. I have close to 20 of these challenge cards right now and am working on getting more. I love them. I finally got my hands on an Ichiro RC through a TCDB trade too!

THRIFT STORE FIND

I see guys finding cards at thrift stores on Twitter all the time. I rarely find anything and probably look at the 4 shops on the way to my son's school once a week. I did find this bobble the other day though. If anyone needs it hit me up.

FIRST HOBBY FAILS 2019

This is NOT how you package a single card.

Kudos to the Tigers broadcast team for jinxing J-Zimm.

Fail goes to the guy who put this card I found in his quarter box last year. Just sold it on ebay for 100X that.

BACK BY NO DEMAND

Five Year Hiatus OVER

I've been a bit busy creating a family the last five years so I took a break from autos. Recently, I've decided to get back to it. Everybody needs a hobby. Up top is a Michael Fulmer 5X7 I had signed at a local signing. I bought a bunch of these 5X7 cards online and hope to start getting them auto'ed they look so much cooler than regular cards.

Here are 4 other autos I've gotten recently. All in person autos but one:

I attended Tigerfest for the first time in 3 years this year and its nothing compared to what it used to be. I used to meet and get autos from 10-15 players and lines were 2 hours. This year I took my brother and feel bad he had to suffer through it. We stood in line for 3 hours to get Mike Pelfrey's auto and then 4 hours for Buck Farmer. Don't get me wrong; I love the autos I got and am so grateful the Tigers put on the event but it seems like they sell 10,000 more tickets to the thing now making it so packed you can't move. Also, in years past I NEVER stood in line to get a single autograph. Usually there were 2-4 signers at the table. I don't know what caused the changes that made the event take a terrible turn but it needs to be worked out. I would rather pay $500 for a ticket to assure I'd get to meet at least half the team and only 1,000 people were in attendance than pay $30 and spend my day standing around for little reward. The Tigerfest FAIL was a big reason I decided to get back into TTM autos. The younger Tigers coming up are looking good and I have a big wishlist of autos from them so since I only got Buck from my list done at Tigerfest I decided I'll send for the rest.

Anyway, the Marcel Dionne I bought online as we share the last name I should own this card. The Buck Farmer is amazing looking. He said he had never seen the Allen and Ginter X card before. The Pelfrey card I had to trade a Fulmer RC for in line before getting it signed as I couldn't find any Pelfrey cards before the event in my collection. The Kevin Van Dam was one of the coolest moments of my life. I went to a fishing show just to see him and maybe get him to sign this card. I walked around peeking behind the scenes for hours trying to spot him. Suddenly I saw a small crowd forming and him in the middle. As soon as some kids got their picture snapped I dove in and handed him the card and a blue sharpie. He had a black one already open and asked what color I wanted. I've idolized this dude forever so I just stared and drooled and don't even remember if I answered him.
