Uh-oh; Another Blogger Goes on Hiatus & 2019 Bassmasters Angler of the Year

What's new?

First off, my newest cards...

Probably the last cards I will be purchasing for a long time. I will explain in another section.
Stewie Auto /150 from Ebay/Twitter. Honestly, I hate when someone adds me on twitter and instantly dm's me with cards they have for sale. This time, however, I made an exception and bought this card for next to nothing.

Finally, finally, finally. I have been chasing this simple SP for months. Got it on ebay for a 99 cent auction. Patience pays off.

/25 ebay steal.

My first Brandon Dixon AUTO! When JaCoby Jones went down Brandon became my Tiger to follow for the year.

I am 0/4 on my last breaks for hits. I don't know where my typical luck has been but only base cards from the last few case breaks I've bought into. Rough too because prices have been really inflated lately and this is the haul from a 2 CASE bowman chrome (bought Stewart) and 1 case Chronicles break (Bought Stewart and O'Hearn). Ugh.

Casey Mize was 99 cents shipped on ebay auction. Max was $2 shipped along with an Ike Davis relic card from the same set. The Ike Davis was the pic for the listing so that must have been how I got both for $2. Eloy sticker was from a blaster a few weeks ago.

Hunter Greene ebay 99 cent auction win. Numbered /25 and diecut!

On our way back through Canada on a trip to the East coast, I grabbed 3 packs of Tim Horton's UD Hockey cards.

What Have I Been Up To?

BASSMASTER Elite Series Angler of the Year Tournament @ Lake St. Clair...

Bassmasters finally came back to Lake St. Clair. For those that don't know there was a recent huge shake up in pro bass fishing leaving anglers to decide whether to stay with BASS or join a hot newcomer organization. This tournament didn't have any huge names but a lot of guys I follow. Two years ago I was at a similar event at the same park and I was the only amateur photographer there. This year, I had a lot of competition and even some passive aggressive scuffles with the Pass Credential photographers who followed me to get into my shots or steal them all together. Whatever. I got the ink I wanted.
The anglers starting to come in for the weigh in.

Probably my coolest auto'd 8X10 in my collection. The scan is crappy, it looks cool in person. A couple years ago I took this pic and thought it was awesome Paul Mueller was holding his son at the weigh in. While I was waiting for his autograph I noticed his wife and son standing by me. I asked his son if that was him on the picture and he asked if he could sign it. Heck yes! I got the father son duo on it. Look for the young Mueller to be famous 16 years from now or so.

Chad Pipkens is one of the local Michigan anglers and one of my favorites. Walmart didn't give me the best print of this pic as it is a little darker than I'd like but still cool. Just need to find Brent Chapman someday to add to it.

Another Pipkens auto.

Brandon Lester threw some ink down on a 8X10 for me too!
I have been continuing my quest for angler autos on the Allen and Ginter Sport Fish cards. I slacked a lot this time and only got four sigs. Rookie of the Year Jake Whitaker, Drew Cook, John Crews, and Garrett Paquette.
Yes, I do always need more of these A&G fish insert cards, or any fish cards for that matter BUT:they are dime box cards at best. Please do not message me on here or TCDB asking if I want to buy them at $1 each. I pass them up at 25 cents all the time. I am pretty sure there are only a handful of people who even collect this insert set and of those I might be the only one who has completed but still wants more. I have a ton of them unsigned so I am not in need of them but will accept them in trade. I will throw up some more pics from the event at the end of this blog.

What's next?

Looking to the future for me, my collection, and this blog...

I am currently starting a long hiatus from buying and trading cards. Years ago I started this blog to keep track of my TTM collection. I quit that pretty quickly when I moved to Maine, I let other passions take over my time, and had a kid. I started this thing back up under the current name a few years ago when we moved back to Michigan and the hobby I was most passionate about became cards again. I just got back from a week in New England with my family. The purpose of the trip was for my wife to interview at 4 different hospitals as her residency is coming to an end in July. So, with job offers coming in instantly I must announce we will be officially moving back to New England (most likely New Hampshire this time) at the end of next summer. We have until then to save up every penny for the move and finding a new home. Thus, I will not be buying cards or paying off USPS pensions in shipping costs for a long time.
What does this mean for the blog? Not that anyone is on the edge of their seat since I have no clue how many people follow this thing and I don't post enough or do giveaways often enough to attract a lot of traffic. But, I definitely thought that the blog and my hobbies would swing back to hunting and fishing the way it did last time I lived there. BUT, while visiting with an old friend his son mentioned out of nowhere he recently got into collecting baseball cards. These guys had no idea I had any interest in or collected cards at all. This 7 or 8 year old kid brings out a bunch of binders he got from a garage sale. We spent the next half hour going through the cards together and I introduced him to TCDB. It was a definite sign that I need not worry about losing touch with or quitting cards. So, for now, the blog will stay as alive as it is now.

My son and I were stuck without a vehicle at the hotel most days. We passed time playing Lego video games and catching creatures in the tidal creek down the road.

We did some lobstering one of the days.

Some more pics...

Here are some more raw pictures I took at the BASS weigh in. I don't know if I will be able to hit any more pro bass weigh ins ever again so I have plenty of time to let them sit before I edit them. Bass pros don't find their way to New England very often. I will miss being so close to one of the greatest fisheries in the world.
Brandon Lester

Chad Pipkens

Clark Wendlandt

Lee Livesay

Garrett Paquette is a local guy who guides on this lake so the home town love was strong in the crowd.

Drew Cook

Drew won Rookie of the Year as this was BASS's last tournament of the year other than the Classic.

Stetson Blaylock

Family support is huge for these guys and you can see it with his family right up in the first row while he weighs in.

Seth Feider won the tournament by a landslide but the big trophy for the event to be awarded was Angler of the Year. When Seth was asked what he was going to do in his off season he said "I'm gonna get my wife pregnant."

Chris Zaldain looking cool waiting to weigh in.

Scott Canterbury won Angler of the Year.

I've Got Friends in Northern Places, Bassmaster Classic Winner Jordan Lee!

A piece of my heart will always belong to Kittery Trading Post in Kittery, Maine. I worked there while my wife attended The University of New England and fell in love with the place. If you ever find yourself in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, really anywhere close to New England; check this place out! I made some amazing friendships there and my buddy Seth, who may be the only person walking this planet that I would switch lives with, hooked me up big time last week. KTP hosted professional bass fisherman Jordan Lee. I was able to meet Jordan last summer at Lake St. Clair for a B.A.S.S. tournament and took some pics while I was there. I sent Seth 4 of the pics I took and asked him to have two inscribed for me and he could do whatever he wanted to with the other two. While my pics were in route to Maine, Jordan won his 2nd, back to back no less, Bassmaster Classic. For all you non-fishermen guys it would be like winning back to back Wimbledons or Masters Tournaments, I guess. Its a World Series-esque bass tournament and Mr. Lee won in 2017 and again this year! I was kicking myself for not having some inscription about his wins put on one of the pics but Seth being a genius hooked me up big time! Check out these sick 1/1 personal 8X10's I now have to display:

My buddy even took a video for me of him signing!

Best TTM Return Of All Time! and Some Baseball Stuff.

Talk about a fan for life!

TTM Return That Won't Ever Be Topped!

I have bored all of you with my Pro-Fishing garbage a lot on this blog. Hopefully, at least one person who doesn't follow Bassmasters or FLW thinks its cool and at least one other likes professional fishing too. Anyway, my favorite angler Jacob Wheeler came through TTM for me by signing my pic from last summer and scribbling some ink on a lure he used in that tournament. Talk about game used! I have auto'd game used bats, balls, etc. but this lure is so awesome. I am going to get these to a custom framer to make an awesome display to put up right next to The Express.

Please excuse my white trash paneled basement. Its just a rental until my wife completes residency.

Baseball Stuff as Promised

My brother and I took a trip to the LCS to grab some prospect cards for Tigerfest and he bought 2 packs of Heritage Minors for $4 a piece. I don't know how many boxes this shop goes through but its most likely the same box I pulled the Eloy Jimenez auto from. He handed me one of the packs and boom. I pulled another auto and a numbered card from the same pack...
82/99

49/60 I think he spelled Triston wrong. LOL

I've seen pics of players signing cards for sets like this. I can see why their sigs become garbage. Imagine having boxes and hundreds of thousands of cards to sign for hours. Even drawing a smiley face instead of your signature would take forever.

The landscape auto card is not a popular layout but looks really cool and gives the player more room to sign. I wish there were more insert sets like this.

Odds and Ends

For the first time I will be at Tigerfest with Early Entry tickets! I traded a box of Tiger cards, may I didn't want to part with from the PC, to a well known season ticket holder. This guy wears a Tigger Adult Onesie to games through the year. I've seen him on many occasions, hes super cool and a Tiger Super-Fan. I am so excited to get in early and have a chance at at least one decent auto.

I have a rare JaCoby Jones lost in the USPS sea right now. Its been drifting through the Detroit system since January 14. Somehow it shows it made it to Pontiac on the 22nd which means its 1. further away than Detroit is to me and 2. IT PASSED BY MY HOUSE! The USPS around here is very flawed and almost makes me scared to buy anything through the mail. Plus, I'm a TTM auto guy. How many of those were returned but didn't make it to me? Pray for this package for me that it washes up in my mailbox someday.

I've been doing some old-school sorting with my trade cards. I've sent out a bunch of Merry Off-Season packages to some of you and still have a big stack to go. Not grade A stuff but something unexpected to open is always fun. Enjoy.

AUTOGRAPHS GALORE! Bassmaster Elite Series @ Lake St. Clair

For the few people who read my blog: Even though there was a Tiger brawl, I will warn you this post has little to nothing to do with baseball except that it includes Allen and Ginter cards. BUT, if you give me a chance to enlighten some of you a bit on professional fishing you just may find some similarities with baseball.
I was able to attend my first Bassmaster Elite weigh in this weekend. For those who don't know, Bassmasters = MLB in the fishing world. The Elite series of anglers are major leaguers in their field. I have watched these guys on TV for a long time and many of the anglers have taken a spot in my favorite people file in my head right next to Nolan Ryan and Cecil Fielder. I posted a while back about getting Kevn VanDam's auto at a boat show on an Allen and Ginter card but I have taken that to a whole new level.
Here is how my days played out. For you baseball people; imagine going to a playoff baseball game of your favorite team and having every player walk by you before leaving the field. You yell to your favorite players "Mr. Verlander, do you have time for a quick signature?" and JV smiles and says "for sure" then comes over and signs your card while asking how your day was and making sincere small talk. These fishing guys may not be world-wide celebrities to most people but there are a lot of us that are fishing freaks that nerd out at these events. If you haven't heard of or watched Major League Fishing on CBS, check it out! It is intense. I was able to get an autograph from any angler I wanted by simply asking politely. NOT A SINGLE ONE ignored me or said no. They ALL came over and talked and joked with me while signing even if they had a bad day on the water. Fred Roumbanus fell on his boat in the high waves and came over with broken ribs to sign an auto and talk. I don't know if these guys are trained to be so cool or if the community of pro fishermen is just lead by example but these dudes were the coolest guys I have ever met. I was blown away at their sincerity and friendliness!
Randy Howell is one of the most humble fishing superstars you can ever meet!

Jacob Wheeler was our main reason for going. He is me and Nolan's favorite fisherman! He was amazing. We got blocked from meeting him on the first day be stupid podcasters. The next day he jumped the fence to give me an Nolan all the time in the world with him. He is amazing to the fans!

Nolan did pretty well for being couped up for two straight days while I had my fun.

I posted a while ago that I was collecting the Allen and Ginter fishing card insert set. I am one card away (#13 sailfish) from having the set complete. I saw some dude on facebook had already beat me to the collection as I am sure many have but he framed the set the way I had imagined it. It looked good but now I don't want to do the same, I want something unique. So when I decided to hit the Bassmaster weigh in I picked up 15 Largemouth and 15 Smallmouth bass cards extra to take them to the event in hopes of getting them signed. Who knew I would run out of cards on the first day?!

In no particular order:

My first venture into the blogosphere was with an outdoor blog. When I was younger my "passions" would change with the season. I had actual "free time" back then. Spring would get me fired up for baseball season, playing softball, watching the Tigers and collecting cards. As summer really heated up and the Tigers lost any chance of anything my attention would swing towards fishing. As that first cool fall breeze came in I would switch over to hunting. When the snow started falling ice fishing would take over and so on. Nowadays I think I have a better grasp on how to divide my attention and keep all my hobbies relevant, though there is never enough time for any of them.
Anyway, my first blog was outdoor themed and took place during a lot of my absence from cards. When my wife and I moved to Maine it became a way for me to tell stories and keep my friends and family up to date on how things were going and what I was up to. Not to mention I began working at Kittery Trading Post which fueled my outdoor passion and gave me opportunities I had never dreamed of. Some of those opportunities happened to be meeting outdoor celebrities I had looked up to or at least followed the careers of. Tom Miranda, Lee and Tiffany Lakosky, Aaron Lewis and so on. Once Nolan was born the whole blog seemed pointless along with most of my hobbies. As he has become a real human person and finds his own interests, I am getting back into my own hobbies. We find ways of sharing them which is the best feeling in the world for a parent.
Mark Daniels Jr.

I'm hoping we didn't jinx Wheeler. He didn't make the final cut.

Aaron Martens

Takahiro Omori

Mark Daniels Jr. the biggest smile in the group.
